Why Purpose Requires a Change in Rhythm
In the last blog post (if you missed it, read it first), I challenged you to look back at 2025 and name the word that best described it—then to name the opposite as something to intentionally move toward in 2026.
I ended that post by saying, “Next time, we’ll talk more about purpose—and why clarity there changes everything.”
This is that conversation.
If we truly want to live with purpose, we first have to get honest about the rhythms in our lives that are not working.
Before anything can change, we must recognize what is keeping us locked into the wrong rhythms. This isn’t about beating ourselves up or wishing things felt different. It’s about identifying what is actually shaping our days.
Because here’s the truth:
This isn’t about changing our feelings—it’s about changing our patterns.
Our feelings are real, but they are not reliable guides for how we live our lives. Scripture reminds us of this clearly:
“The heart is more deceitful than all else and is desperately sick; who can understand it?”
—Jeremiah 17:9
If we allow our emotions, impulses, or internal pressure to lead us, we’ll continue circling the same exhausted rhythms—no matter how badly we want something different.
Instead, we’re called to lean on what is true.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.”
—Proverbs 3:5–6
When we talk about purpose, we often think big picture—calling, vocation, or the overarching story of our lives. But purpose is also lived out in the details.
How you spend your days.
How you fill your hours.
How you move through your minutes.
Those small, repeated patterns are what form the rhythm of your life.
So here’s my challenge as we move toward a different rhythm in 2026:
1. What rhythms or habits are keeping you stuck?
Name them. Don’t just think, “Yes, there are some things.”
Clarity begins when we put words to what’s actually happening.
2. Where do you see yourself reacting instead of living intentionally?
Are you constantly responding to urgency, expectations, or pressure—rather than choosing how you want to live your days?
3. What keeps pulling you back into hustle mode?
Is it pride?
People-pleasing?
A need for affirmation?
Control?
Or something else entirely?
Take time this week to sit with these questions. Write your answers down. Pray over them. Be honest.
You cannot move forward into a new rhythm unless you first identify what is holding you back.
And the good news?
Once those patterns are named, they no longer get to quietly run your life.
This is where purpose begins to take shape—one honest step at a time.
