Last week you may have left with this question –How is this even possible when my schedule is already full and overflowing, and I can’t add one more thing? Let me start by saying making time with God doesn’t add pressure, but actually brings freedom. This post is all about the how of of decramming your schedule so that you have the margin to add what’s necessary to gain order to your life.
The Decramming Your Schedule Method is the exact method I use to evaluate my commitments and to be sure I’m ordering my days in alignment with God’s will (making time for studying His word). This method is not easy but it is simple and if you follow it, you can create the margin in your days and in turn, create order in your life.
Before you can decram your schedule, you have to understand how it got so crammed in the first place.
In the middle of your overbooked days, have you stopped to ask yourself:
Why is my schedule out of control?
Why do I take on more when I can’t keep up with what’s already on my plate?
Why are these items even on my to-do list?
Why do I accept this chaotic cycle as normal?
We’re familiar with the five W’s and one H — who, what, when, where, why, and how. But when it comes to our commitments, the question we most often skip is why.
Why? Because technically, we don’t need the answer to complete the task. We can show up. We can check the box. We can get it done.
But just because the task gets finished doesn’t mean it was aligned.
The why may not affect whether something gets completed — but it absolutely affects whether it should have been on your calendar in the first place.
If you want a different result, you have to try a different approach. And that begins with understanding your current one. When you pause long enough to ask why, you begin to see how you got here — and that awareness is the first step toward real change.
Asking why won’t magically create margin overnight. But it will begin revealing what needs to shift. I invite you to spend time this week answering these questions. Don’t rush them, they are the key pursuing order.
Why is my schedule out of control?
Why do I take on more when I can’t keep up with my current commitments?
Why are these items on my to – do list? ( Give a general, overall a nswer here. We’ll dive deeper in a few weeks)
Why do I accept this chaotic cycle as an unavoidable part of life?
Next week we’ll tackle a realization you have possibly lost sight of – the value of time.
