Last week, we paused.
We asked the hard why questions.
Why is my schedule so full?
Why do I feel the constant pull to stay busy?
Why are these things even on my to-do list in the first place?
If you sat with those questions, you probably discovered something important:
It’s not just about productivity.
It’s about priorities.
And priorities are rooted in how we value time.
Scripture reminds us:
Ecclesiastes 3:1–11 (NASB1995)
“There is an appointed time for everything. And there is a time for every event under heaven—
A time to give birth and a time to die;
A time to plant and a time to uproot what is planted.
A time to kill and a time to heal;
A time to tear down and a time to build up…”
This clearly tells us something we often forget:
Now is not the time for everything.
There are appointed seasons for what will fill our lives and our days.
We are not meant to carry every opportunity, every role, every responsibility, every dream — all at once. God, in His wisdom, appoints seasons.
There is a time to build.
There is a time to uproot.
There is a time to hold on.
And there is a time to let go.
Something you committed to a year ago may not be for this season.
And if we’re honest?
Some things were never meant for us to carry in the first place.
One thing I do know is this:
Some things have to end for better things to begin.
You cannot keep stacking new commitments on top of old ones and expect a different rhythm of life. If you want a new rhythm, something has to be released.
That’s the hard part.
I know.
Letting go feels uncomfortable. It feels irresponsible. It feels like disappointing someone. It feels like quitting.
But obedience sometimes looks like release.
Another verse that sits on my heart often is:
Ephesians 5:15–16
“Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil.”
We must plan our days carefully.
If we let our days plan themselves, they will naturally drift toward chaos. We live in a fallen world. The default is not order. The default is noise.
If you are not intentional with your time, you will become a prisoner to it.
So here is your challenge this week:
Write down every single commitment you have.
Everything that takes up your time weekly.
Everything recurring.
Everything that pulls on your energy.
Then look at that list and ask — Why am I committed to this?
As you read through it, pray.
Ask God to reveal which commitments He never intended you to make. Ask Him to show you what is for this season — and what is not.
And when He makes it clear, get it off your schedule.
Don’t allow guilt to keep you bound to something God is asking you to release. The enemy loves to use guilt to keep us overextended and distracted.
Instead, pray for courage. Pray for clarity. Pray for the right words. And trust that obedience will always produce better fruit than obligation.
We’ll start there.
Next time, I’ll share my “Decramming Your Schedule” method to help you work through the remaining items on your list — the ones that truly belong in this season.
Because clarity isn’t just about doing less.
It’s about doing what’s appointed for now..
