Question to Consider:
What do you do when you’re running on empty at the end of a long day?
Do you veg out on the couch for some “me time”?
Zone out on a social media scroll?
Or maybe just crash and call it a day?
Let’s look at what Jesus did after a long, exhausting day.
Bible Verse:
“In the early morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house, and went away to a secluded place, and was praying there.”
— Mark 1:35
If you look at the verses leading up to this, you’ll see that the hours before this moment were packed full—healing, casting out demons, and ministering to crowds who gathered right at His door.
It seems Jesus hadn’t even rested yet. After all that busyness, He didn’t crash.
He went to pray.
Reflection:
That stopped me in my tracks.
I’m a productive person by nature—always checking things off the list, always moving to the next task. From the moment my coffee hits and I (hopefully) spend time in the Word, I’m off and running.
But day after day, that cycle of non-stop motion can drain me—and I wonder why I feel so depleted.
Through studying this passage, Jesus showed me something I’ve been missing:
a rhythm of prayer at the end of my day, not just the start.
It hadn’t really occurred to me to go to the Father to refill my cup at night. I thought prayer was the launchpad for the next morning, not the recharge for the day that’s done.
Yet Scripture shows over and over that Jesus went off to be alone with His Father after His ministry moments.
So that’s what I’m going to start doing.
Why?
Because Jesus is the example, and I’m here to follow it.
Question for You:
What would change for you if you ended your day the way Jesus did—by going to the Father to be refilled?
